DIY w/D: Love Trumps Hate Edition

This past Friday¬†was Inauguration Day – uhhhh girl bye – and if that wasn’t depressing enough, I had absolutely nothing to do. Bae had to grade papers all weekend (snooze) and Queen Bee was out of town. So, since I don’t have any other friends, I thought why not DIY! In case you didn’t realize, I’m a homosexual, therefore the entire CFD office is covered in rainbows. But there is one corner of our space that wasn’t screaming GAY, and I knew that a fun yarn art wall hanging would do the trick.

Here’s what your ass needs:

-branch or dowel

-spray paint (optional but why not)

-yarn in a plethora of colors

-scissors

-hammer & nails

Here’s what your ass does:

Step 1.

Because we live in the bountiful wilderness of North Carolina I had access to a rustic branch that I broke off of my neighbors tree in the dark of night. However, if you live in a more bustling metropolis or are not comfortable with thievery, then a plain wooden dowel will work fine.

Now spray paint that mess and give it some sass. I chose a metallic gold to add a little more fairy dust to this project.

Here Bae, hold this stick so I can snap a pic!

Step 2.

Now its time to cut some yarn. I want this wall hanging to be dramatic, cause Queen Bee loves some drama, so I cut each strand of yarn to about 60″ long. Continue to snip strands at that length until you have around 20 pieces.

Step 3.

Now repeat for each color of yarn in your wall hanging. I know, I know, its a lot of cutting, but you’ll get over it.

Step 4.

Let’s put this thing together! Gently loop one set of strands around your big ol’ branch like so-

Next repeat for all sets of strands. Now you’re ready to install girl!

Step 5.

I used a hammer and nails, which I spray painted gold because, duh. I measured the length of the branch placing a nail at the either end for my yarn art wall hanging to rest on. Here it is in the office:

Girl I’m tired, that was a lot! Let’s get a drink and some hummus.
